How to Avoid Probate?
Probate is the legal, court process of handling a person’s estate after they pass away. The Probate Court oversees the distributions the person’s assets as well as other instructions in their Will or other documents. The process can be expensive, time consuming, and can take six months to a year or more. Fortunately there are legal ways to avoid or minimize going through Probate.
These can include the use of Trusts, the transfer of assets prior to death, and setting up accounts to be paid to heirs upon death. But, beware, these options need to be done correctly or you could end up leaving an even bigger mess for your heirs. At Rocky Mountain Wills and Trusts we work with our clients to implement strategies to avoid or minimize the need for probate and the headaches and costs that often accompany it.
