The month of February usually brings thoughts of continued cold weather, snow, ice, and a magical groundhog forecasting the weather. February is also the month of Valentine’s Day. While Valentine’s day was a week or two ago, it is still fresh in our minds. Whether you celebrate it or not, Valentine’s Day has become a symbol of love in our culture. But what is love? I am not going to get philosophical here about the meaning of “love”. (Sorry to disappoint you all.) But I will say, one of the ways we often express our love for another person is by taking steps to care for and protect them. Let’s face it, we all know we only have a limited amount of time in this world before we have to leave those we love behind. Here at Rocky Mountain Law Firm, we truly believe that having a plan to take care of and protect your loved ones is an act of love. It will be hard enough for a spouse, a child, or your other loved ones after you are gone. So, let’s do what we can to make that time (and the time after) less difficult. If you haven’t prepared an estate plan, or it has been a few years since you updated your estate plan, we encourage you to take steps now to create, update, or at least review your current estate plan with an experienced and knowledgeable attorney. We know you want to continue to care for and protect those you love even after you are gone. We want that for you too. Honestly, we really do. It’s not just because this is how we earn our living, it’s because we believe that when we help people take care of these things, we are doing our small part of making the world a better place. So, whether you work with us or not, as you reflect this month on those you love, please take those steps to care for and protect your loved ones.

WARNING: While caring for and protecting your loved ones is an act of love, telling your spouse or significant other that the special surprise you got them for Valentine’s Day was to do your estate plan may result in serious injury. This warning also applies for birthdays and wedding anniversaries.
